AI & Generative AI Policy
Responsible disclosure and use of AI tools in scholarly work.
Authorship
AI tools cannot qualify as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work, approve the final manuscript or respond to questions about integrity.
Author disclosure
Authors must disclose material use of generative AI where it affects writing, analysis, code, figures, images, data processing or other research outputs. Routine spelling or grammar assistance does not normally require the same level of disclosure unless it materially changes content.
Human accountability
Authors remain responsible for accuracy, originality, citations, permissions, confidentiality and the integrity of all submitted content, including content created or modified with AI tools.
Editorial confidentiality
Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts or substantial unpublished content to external AI systems that may retain or expose the material.
